You have a tea set and a collection of assorted tea leaves.
You jaywalk cram yourself into elevators and onto trains instead of taking offense or being self-righteous.
You get a feeling of comfort when returning to your city/home in China.
You become obsessed with constantly looking at or playing on your phone.
You grow so accustomed and comfortable with life here that you fall victim to simple scams you would have caught a few years earlier.

I think there are three stages that most foreigners go through here. Some never pass stage one or two however.
(1) You’re the clueless foreigner. You live where the other foreigners live often eat at the popular foreign restaurants while You get your Chinese friends to help you for almost any task.

(2) You’re the “I’m so Chinese” foreigner. You turn smug towards the newbie foreigners. You feel like you’re more “Chinese” than them… and that you know the true subtleties of Chinese society. You move away from the foreign areas and shun foreign food and people.

(3) You’re the “I’ve come full circle” foreigner. Since you’re living here for such a long time you decide to make yourself comfortable. You don’t care about being “Chinese” — and you know that you never really will be. You dig western and Chinese food. You realize that even the more “western” or “upscale” parts of town are still Chinese too. “Real China” doesn’t have to be eating BBQ at a 大排档 chain smoking cigarettes and getting drunk off cheap beer. Most importantly your identity doesn’t revolve around being an “advanced foreigner who understands China” — you just dig the whole thing.

You laugh at the Chinese memes on your WeChat moments.
Writing this list was hard because none of these things seem unusual for you anymore.

You got used to drink warm water at restaurants instead of iced water.
You Jay walk.
You keep very minimal mustache because pretty much no other guy here likes keeping a mustache; you start avoiding tanning if possible becuase all the girls like to be light-colored.
You gives no frack to the police.
You learn to yell at the line-cutters telling them to frack off where in reality you are cutting a line yourself.
You love getting drunk at a table by a lamb kabob joint by the streets.
You honk at pedestrians for walking too slow.

You stopped buying fake western brand alcohol here and start buying more authentic Chinese brand alcohol.
You start finally making some true Chinese friends not just friends that you get stupid drunk with but those who help you with your work study or personal life selflessly.
You value connections guanxi with others more than yourself.

(Three Years Mark) You realize that you will never truly be Chinese despite you have become fluent in the language and culture.
You keep learning by doing more reading about China and realized there are at least 3000 years worth of books to be read.
You realize that you know nothing about China still even though it’s been years.
You realized that you are not special you are but human.
You realize that you are of tiny significance in the grand scheme of cosmic story.
(Four Years Mark) You go to a kabob joint the server gives you a cup of warm water while you wait for your order and you wonder “what is life about really?”

4- your phone is the only tool that you need everything is in your phone you read books watch movies play games work check flights buy stuff..
5- pizza express seems a resonably good pizza sometimes you want to try Burger king sometimes you even drink at Starbucks..
6- you don't drink wine anymore
7- you play majiang and like it
8- you accept and offer cigarettes
9- you are friend with someone only if you drink with him and sing at KTV
10- most of your daily conversations are in Chinese.
point 5 and 6 are more for Italians.
