Does it mean most Indians are getting richer? Does it mean their standard of living is steadily improving? The data says: not really. Nearly 40% of India’s total wealth is held by just the top 1% of the population (World Inequality Report). Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of Indians together own only about 3% of the nation’s wealth. This level of concentration makes GDP per capita a misleading indicator. Because averages hide extremes. In fact, if you remove just the top 1% of earners, the per capita figure drops sharply. And if you remove the top 5%, who control nearly 62% of national wealth, the average income falls to around $1,100 a year. That is less than ₹1 lakh for an entire year. And that is where the majority of Indians actually live. This is also why the government has to provide free food rations to nearly 80 crore people. Such extreme inequality, combined with a very large population, should alarm us. But it rarely does.

Well I think if you factor in the kerala’s near universal literacy, far better educational infrastructure/institutions and compare it with Bihar’s low enrollment, far lower literacy rate etc you’ll realise a per capita comparison isn't fair. What I meant is that despite being failed by their state, they still manage to shine. Not putting down kerala, great respect for what they have achieved- by the way I’m not from Bihar and my respect for people from that state is from my time attempting the Civil Services from way back

I think Bihar was rich when farming & mining was the only way to earn money. Rich people exploited poor people to work in farms in the name of caste. Bihar became poor because still rich people didn’t want poor people such as Dalits to get basic rights.

Japan do not have the similar purchasing power, the 4 trillion dollar means nothing for Japan, But 4 trillion dollars with 15 trillion dollars purchasing power is a big deal. Some questions.. to take this topic ahead. Indian overall tax collection when current govt came in was 10 lac crore. Now end of fy 2025–26 going to cross 40 lac crore. Is there very uneven distribution of wealth ? In some sports like gymnastics where 10 judges give score, the top score and bottom most score are discarded and average is given for 8 scores.. similarly can we deduct top 5% income and bottom 5% income and check statistics. The bottom 5% should be specially targetted by govt in their schemes. I am seeing more and more Indians travelling abroad for tourism say in Vietnam, Europe, japan and even kenya and South America. Will that means that money is being distributed in middle class. We can see that primary and secodnary schooling is still not improving at all states. We are getting more AIIMS, IIT,, NIT, IIM but it is primary and secondary schooling and also skill based schools like ITI which need thousand times more improvement. The railway infra is sluggish. We are not seeing any news about better irrigation and agriculture automization. Can someone - you or other readers can share some more statistics.. As you said improper distribution of wealth and resources will create big problem for us on future..today we are seeing Iran - land of intelligent people in a big quandary

Mostly it is all deliberate hype created with political motive to hoodwink the people. Last ten years we have been hearing that India is going to be the fourth largest economy just to pop up the impression that the country is fast developing. But even then the Govt. says that it is feeding 80 crores out of a burgeoning population of 142 crores, because of its concern for poverty. How do the two claims match , as one has to be a blatant lie. These fellows think that the people at large are gullible enough and they can continue in power by fooling us.

Imagin with me, India - for 500000 people there is 500 mangoes, then how much mango each person will get? Ans: Each person will get 0.001 mango. Japan - For 500 people there is 5000 mangoes then how much each person will get? Ans: Each person will get 10 mangoes. So you can imagine 0.001 is almost equivalent to nill. That is why India is called Dead Economy. Reaching 4 trillion or more does not make any sense.

These only affect those things which are imported. India is not an import-dependent country and the higher economic output means that expensive imports can be purchased without much impact on the purse (at a country level). This is why forex reserves are higher than they ever were. Had import-cost inflation been a problem; then those forex reserves wouldn’t have been all that much. Rupee falling against dollar is a problem if people cannot buy imported goods as readily as before, which is not the case.

Out of 140 crores, real working class is just 30 crore or so. It is not that 40% wealth is with just 1% bcoz in this capitalist way of development these 1% are employing a large chunk of this work force. But out of that large chunk of work force a few gets rich due to their ability n hard work. see how Manrega is grossly misused by headman n his accomplices. Agriculture is really at back foot inspite of government’s subsidies and support. Farmer is choosing to get a job in nearby city in addition to what produce he gets from farm. Due to rapid urbanisation agriculture land is shrinking. Since seven decades no such huge development took place. In year 2000 many people paid more than 50% of tax. Data collection at ground level is very poor. So the growth in GDP shown is in a way representative to move further in framing policy.

All these bleeding heart arguments are good for presenting a pov that many disgruntled people like to present. Fact is there has been a rapid change in the way Indians are living , from having no toilets for hundreds of millions to that becoming a fact of daily life . From no access to formal banking , loans etc to being available even to beggars , the trajectory has been dramatic . Keyboard commie warriors who enjoy their five stars elite life style keep harping how poor are left behind blah blah. The fact is people like this want the poor to remain poor just the commies do. Rich will get richer , but the poor have way more opportunities now in India , from becoming a delivery driver to a content creator even without any education people have made a decent life . Many have an issue with salaries of delivery drivers ,they compare their life styles and start pitying the drivers etc . The drivers would have been worse off working in some remote village many a time and not even being paid a wage on time by some local thug. Indian economy has just started it actually journey to some extent free from this commie mind set, then comes these , India does not have this that and all that crap. Listening to these people will ensure that India will be a dump and Indians will always live a poor and uncertain life .

Many now avail of it and benefit but they are not solely dependent on it , many dont even want it any more as they have started making choices as their income slowly has gone up . Nonsense. All you termites come out when there is some positive development in India. India already had a population of 120 crores when it became a trillion dollar economy (2007). Now with 20% increase in population (143 Crores), our GDP has increased by 330% (4.3 trillion USD). (Which means today an average indian is earning almost 4 times what he earned in 2007, in DOLLAR terms) Japan’s population was 12.5 crores in 2007 and its GDP was 4.4 trillion USD. Now, in 2025, Japan’s population is still 12.5 crores and its GDP is still 4.3 trillion USD. (Which means that an average Japanese is still earning the same what he was earning in 2007, in Dollar terms). Even though an average Japanese is still earning 10 times as much as an average indian (nominal per capita GDP), his purchasing power in Japan is ONLY 2.5 TIMES that of what an Indian can purchase in India. Let that sink in. The reality is that India has performed very well in general and Extremely well in comparison to Japan. Swallow your shit and go back to hide in the woodwork again you termites!

More people less opportunities, even lesser with better opportunist people not by luck or sheer hard work and intelligence but by dedicated corridor created by money family ties and power game, india will never be a level playing field like the west or even like China. we thrive on other's incompetency and failure. Very less moral value due to huge degenerate population who is just willing to live by each day somehow and not managing or thinking as to improve the whole journey. Rich don't care for the poor, poor hates rich like anything but have no means to challange or don't even try to start improving the baseline of their life. On a global map we are just a bunch of top level company workers or middle men for the whites and elites to run the show on their behalf. In last 50 years we had chances but we failed miserably and untill the entire world is reshaped we will be at mercy of the richest and politicians and foreign powers. We are to blame for this and not outsiders. Remember Indians sold india to brits when we could have showed out steel. We are a bunch of cowards with slave mind and wannabe opportunists who only think about safeguarding the miniscule fortune while giving away the biggest chunk cos we don't have a fucking clue.
