Went to Tesla when looking for a new car a few years ago. They are super expensive and basically very simple on the inside. I wouldn’t save the money on gas for the huge price of the Tesla and told the young salesman this too.

I live in Shanghai and bought a BYD Tang in 2016, its a hybrid one and 10 years old but still working fine except the batteries which I have replaced for free. 10 years ago the batteries were not so good as today but BYD provided lifetime free replacement service. I hope they will provide good services in Canada also not only the products.

The EVs may be affordable, but not necessarily reliable, durable or safe as far as the industry goes overall.  We will have to see if those imported into Canada have their quality and safety standards increased.

That's good news for Canada. The cheapest Chinese EV we have here in Australia is called the BYD Atto 1 which starts at $23990 AUD (approx $22300 CAD based on current exchange rate), plus on road costs, registration, insurance ect, say an extra $4-$5k, about $30k all up give or take. May or may not be the same for Canada, not sure how your drive away car market works there. Either or, google AI is telling me the current EV options for Canada for basic entry level start at low to mid $40k's CAD ($43000 + AUD), which is crazy expensive. Also I'll note that in Australia we have what's called the ANCAP safety rating, the highest safety rating a vehicle can get in Australia is a 5 star and most of these Chinese EV brands and models have received flawless 5 star ANCAP safety ratings here in Australia. So even with 6.1% tariff the Chinese EV's will be much cheaper than what you currently have available, so a big win for Canada and the Canadian consumer.

I get your point…but it is not accurate.  It has been shown on all across the news in US.  
However, some stations promote it as Canada making a mistake, some promote it as Canada making a deal to show Trump he doesn’t control the world, and others, still are saying Trump is so great China wasn’t able to take advantage of the US, and the few impartial stations simply report the latest news around the world.

I am pleased with the improved relationship with China. Never again should we make one country our priority to the exclusion of our own best interests.Currently the US is not a place where you can really negotiate or make real deals. It is what the US wants or nothing. It is going to be a long time before the US recovers from this chaos so we need to move on and develop other deals and alliances.We should always be diversified even if the US can return to some rule of law and order.
