This is Southeast Asia
If you ask me I personally prefer Southeast Asia over South Asia because it is more developed than South Asia. Some of the largest growing economies in the world are located in Southeast Asia like Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines. Bangkok is the most visited city in the world. Singapore is a successful developed country. India’s economy is rising but infrastructure is subpar, widespread poverty and cleanliness issue. Pakistan has a large population but the country is suffered by terrorism. Bangladesh is overpopulated. Afghanistan has Taliban. Nepal is not that developed. Sri Lanka has been ruined by family politics. Bhutan has little modernisation.

I am Indian. South East Asia is waaaaay superior. My favourite is Thailand, Malaysia follows close behind. The only place in South Asia that can come close to South East Asia is Southern India. Particularly coastal Andhra, parts of Kerala, Karnataka and TN.

I have lived in South Asia and South East Asia. I agree with the writer that life in South East Asia is better than life in South Asia. The most important reason is leadership. Non of the South Asian countries had good leaders who could have guided their countries to improved living standards. South Asian countries could not produce leaders like Lee Kuan Yew and Mahathir Mohammed.

South Asia is at least 20years behind South East Asia. One key reason is that the mean IQ of South Asians is of a low 85 whereas the mean IQ of Singaporeans is on high score of 125.

Two of South Asian (SA) countries are nuclear powers. South East Zsia (SEA) not even single one. SA has produced two nobel laureattes. SEA only has one. Each region has its own plus minus factors. To say this one is better or more advance than that one is a subjective presume.

This is a 2011 data. The percentage of people living in extreme poverty in India according to the world bank is 3% as of 2022. Neither India nor Bangladesh has extreme poverty anymore. Its rather some 42 countries in subsaharan africa that has extreme poverty. Some south east asian countries like Laos and Myanmar has higher poverty rates than both India and Bangladesh.
No doubt India and Bangladesh are poor but in no way are these countries in the bottom 14 or 15. India ranks 120 and bangladesh ranks 125 in gdp per capita PPP out of 193 countries. India is poor and so is bangladesh. So we are no where in the bottom 20.
