Avatar is particularly viable in terms of popularity for a Western/US studio based film. The main protagonist characters are not American/Western in feature or residence, and the main antagonists appear to be Western/American in their accent and features. This distinguishes Avatar from nearly all the MCU and DC as well as most every recent (Top Gun Maverick anyone?) major action/ drama film over the decades. Its a natural fit for a closed society where they are bombarded with anti American propaganda every day. What kind of society would come to a new world to plunder, destroy and defile its peaceful, ecologically intelligent humanoids ? They want to do the same to us just like we''ve been told! If not for covid, it would have been biggest opening for a film ever in China I believe

James cameroon movies are really loved in China. I believe the one of the first blockbusters allowed in China was titanic so there’s an attachment in a way.

let’s be honest..only hollywood does blockbuster movies correctly in terms of visuals. No other country has the technology or resources to make extravagant films. Then British blockbusters are usually tied with American film makers regardless. That’s why the rest of the world focuses on dramas, soap operas, comedies, and romance as they are easier to make. I saw some Chinese blockbuster films and their CGI just looks like video games.
