Back in my teenage years, I was a completely different guy.
Imagine a guy with zero attitude, zero ego, zero arrogance, completely down to earth, always loving and helpful to others.
Yes. That was me. Dream guy na? Nope.
I proposed a girl. She rejected. I proposed another. She too rejected.
In a span of 3 years, I proposed somewhat 7–8 girls. All of them rejected me.
Reason they gave: You're good but I don't like you.
Actual reason: You're only good to be used.
Also, a lot of my friends betrayed me. I won't go into the details for now. And due to all this, I also faced an academic failure.
Overall, I was dejected and depressed for weeks.
But I vowed to change myself completely. I was dedicated enough to improve my looks, my confidence and my personality.
And I guckinf did it in a year. And now, here I'm.
Imagine a guy with a blend of attitude and arrogance, down to earth and humble only to those who deserve, a selfish who helps himself before helping others, and with a humorous and charming personality.

But do I wanted to be like this? No.
Then why did I change?
Because the outside world demands it. Everyone will tell you that they like people with zero attitude, arrogance, and blah blah kinda things.
But in reality, they don't even care to notice them. They are treated nicely only when someone want something from them.
Be a nice guy and you will be used, demotivated and rejected every guckinf time.
But once you change yourself and make yourself somewhat worthy, people will start noticing you and consider you as an ideal person even if you don't have the aforementioned traits.

That adult life is much, much better than childhood.
If you find yourself thinking the opposite, you are romanticising “not having any responsibility” while ignoring the other side of it, which is not having any freedom!
As a child, your happiness was totally dependent on the adults around you. Whereas as an adult, you are responsible for your own happiness and it's simply great!
While it's true that things are simpler in childhood, that's also because your perception of things is simpler, primarily because you are a child and aren't capable of grasping life in all its nuances. As an adult, this changes. You realise the context of most things sometimes to your own peril. You also risk complicating things.
But that's the best part of being an adult. That it's all on you. If you complicate things, you are free to sort them out instead of depending on someone else.
Life only gets better steadily! With experience.

With age, your edges smoothen and you learn the value of kindness and compassion above intelligence and logic. You realise that more things are likely to work out with love than with arguments, however brilliant! This makes you a better person.
Your manner of dealing with conflict gets better with age. Your manner of handling disappointments, hardships and sorrows gets better with age.
You realise how temporary most of your feelings are, with age. With a little more of age, you realise the same is true of your thoughts. With age, you learn to therefore take yourself much less seriously.
With age you also learn one of the biggest lessons your younger self usually misses - there is no ultimate meaning to life. Your life will be what you make of it. It is on you to give it meaning.
As an adult, you don’t need anybody’s permission and you can live your life on your own terms. You have complete freedom along with the intelligence and maturity to understand that freedom comes with responsibility - something I am sure your teenage self would love to realise.
Adult life is great. I'd rather be an adult than a child. Any day.

A really good friend of mine, Adam, hung himself last year. He was the happiest guy in the world. His father left for work in the morning and came back to find him in the hall of his family house, hung from the ceiling fan with a belt. No-one has any idea why, nor will anyone ever know why Adam did what he did. Adam's parents have nothing to go on, no closure for why Adam did what he did, but they're slowly learning to accept it and move on with life.
Adam's dad said something quite poignant to me at his funeral:
"Know one thing. Life is terminal. It is going to end, and you have absolutely no idea when, how or why it will end. And for that reason, live each day like it's the last."
And that's just it... life is temporary - death is a taboo and a lot of people don't talk about it. Whether you do, or you don't - make the most of every day and absolutely every moment, because there'll be a day when a person/people you love aren't around, for whatever reason, and you'll want to say 'I made the most of my time with X' rather than starting a sentence off with 'I wish...'.
As they say, life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here, we should dance.
