Altruistic acts aren’t done intentionally. Being a martyr isn’t a goal we have and we don’t value being seen as a saint or hero of humanity. We don’t sacrifice ourselves for the sake of others on purpose. We act according to whatever inspires us to take action—usually being other people’s emotions and wellbeing. We help others without even considering the consequences for ourselves. Altruism is not a desire or intention we have, it is an unfortunate predicament we often get ourselves into without deliberately choosing to do so.

Being right or wrong doesn’t matter to us at all. We don’t feel satisfied from being proven right. We don’t feel pleasure when others are proved wrong. We simply seek the truth and want to learn the purest truth in the foundation of everything. It can sometimes seem as if we are trying to prove others wrong or position ourselves as knowing better than everyone else, but that couldn’t be farther from reality. People think our ego is more enmeshed with our minds than it actually is. Our sense of self is often isolated from what drives us. We don’t want ourselves to be seen as right; we don’t care who is right; we want to figure out what is truly right, by any means and whatever source necessary.

We are often called self-righteous, and of course there may be some INFJs who are indeed self-righteous to the highest degree. I won’t argue against that at all. And sure, I admit that I’ve been guilty of it a time or two. However, it isn’t a common feature of mine and it isn’t present in my natural demeanor. If we believe something is right, 9 times out of 10 it is because we have learned something to be true that served in teaching us what to believe in.
