A sightseeing train in the town of Takachiho on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu has been using old cooking oil from ramen and rice dishes as a new kind of biofuel. The oil is collected from restaurants and refined with other chemicals to form a non-smoky fuel. The cost of the fuel is said to be almost the same as that of diesel. The idea of the environmentally-friendly fuel first emerged in 2013 and was developed by transportation company Nishida Shoun, in Kyushu’s Fukuoka prefecture.

Beside the oil, I''m so impressed with the train track..the bridge panorama is so stunning though..
Sometimes I wonder why Japan is so much cooler than America. I''m happy for Japan though. They give tourists a reason to go back again and again.
Even if it costs same as diesel fuel it''s less wasteful, more environmentally friendly and will only get cheaper with time
Ooh, I love this sustainable fuel option!

Someone in the Philippines has actually tried mixing used cooking oil (from fried chicken fast food chains no less) with diesel and use it to run his 2-yr old Toyota SUV and it worked! He''s been doing it for several years without any engine issues. Maybe we need to look into this cooking oil fuel a bit more given the ridiculous gas prices right now.
Japan is another level when it comes to innovations, wow
This is a great achievement, it means we can obtain fuel from not only fossil fuels, but waste we generate.
It would be great if we can also turn other oils we produce as waste, like faeces oil, cooking oil, etc...
Very extraordinary innovation and nature friendly, Nice..

it might be environmentally friendly coming out of the exhaust but how friendly is it to your engine

Took the train ride when i travel there just before covid. Very beautiful and picturesque. The conductor talked a lot about the history and all but in Japanese language haha. We didn''t understand anything.

Haha, I remember a while back China had a scandal with reusing restaurant drain oil. I realized that this is the same thing. They take waste oil from restaurants to make biofuel.
Difference is some parties in China process that oil back into oil for consumption...
In certain countries gutter oil is being used in their food

Well done ! Indian railways also runs on biodiesel. My area in Malaysia where some trains still runs on petroleum diesel blended with biodiesel. Looking forward for they runs on 100% waste vegetable oil (WVO).

so bio diesel, most diesel engines can run on cooking oil with little to no modifications.
Development of Diverse BIOFUELS is a more sustainable future than reliance on electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles are GRID DEPENDENT and still use fossil fuels to charge.

I hope we can recycle human remains as well, we have too many elderly people who are about to die, we can even have corpse starch made from powdered human remains, that would be great for the environment.

Yeah ramen oil as a fuel.
So this is clickbait basically. It runs on oil not noodles. Any oil. Like every other tracker engines of its type on the planet.
China made their train float. What is your idea?
Japan: RAMEN!

See, this is what the Chinese should''ve been doing with their leftover cooking oils instead of collecting them from dumpsters and frying more foods with them in China.
