Why shd we do so? What is the financial advantage ? Whose ego does that satisfy ?
It is business prudence to source the cheapest inputs WITHOUT compromising on quality and functionality from any part of the world. If Samsung can give mobile screens the cheapest why shd india invest scarce capital to produce the screen at a higher cost ?
International trade does not sustain such egoistic introverted business models.

Why don't we have good mobile phone and laptop manufacturing companies in India?
The answer is simple. Indian smartphone companies never tried to serve customers. All they cared about was Money and Profit. When smartphone culture had begun in India, we had quite a few companies which were very profitable at that time, because people were ready to spend money to buy their first smartphones. However, all they did was this: They just brought ready-made custom phones from China, put their logos on the phones and dumped them in the Indian market. Also, their profit margins in those devices were very high. However, after some time, Chinese companies came in India, Samsung started manufacturing smart devices, thus the monopoly of Indian companies came to an end. People started realizing the fact of how these companies looted them, no software upxes in devices, poor build quality, etc.

Reputed Chinese companies and Samsung had many R&D's, manufacturing units, they provided software upxes and the overall build quality of devices was satisfactory. Thus Indian companies stood nowhere near these giants of smart devices. And slowly and steadily were dead. Some of them tried to revive themselves, however, it was too late for any action to be taken. They can be revived. however, it will need a lot of effort and scanning of the business environment because the Indian smart devices industry is considered to be a midrange price friendly.

DESIGN- Major Indian smartphone ventures do not design their phones they simply rebrand Chinese products and bring them with a profit in to the Indian market e.g. Micromax, YU, Karbonn, Lava etc.

Even when a company completely designs the product or at-least participates in engineering of the device they still have to purchase / manufacture the parts in China or Taiwan and the ship them back here to assemble.
We don’t have facilities to produce semiconductors for the internals of a smartphone, thus one can not have an entirely Indian smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer!

Is there any mobile phone totally engineered and made in India?
I think its rare and difficult to find a phone which is totally “made in India” but there are some companies which assemble their phones in India.. Its not easy to manufacture a phone fully in any country.. Companies tend to import some parts of the phone from different countries and assemble it in a specific industry.

The only phones which are completely (almost) made in India are made by Samsung. Almost all other phones are either assembled in India (Some Xiaomi and Realme phones) or are imported From China. Unfortunately there are no relevant Indian smartphone brand currently operating.

While India has countless great engineers, cheap labor and potential, but the fact that the mindset there overall isn’t conducive to innovation and creativity is a big impediment. The lack of an isolated region where brilliant minds can flourish is also a big hindrance.
