Police practised how they would respond to a shooting attack at a school campus in the US state of Florida on August 3, 2022. More than 100 law enforcement officers carried out the drill at the school in the southeastern state. Firearms instructors guided and assessed their response to a shooting on a busy school day. Liberal gun ownership laws are often blamed for deadly shootings at schools and other venues in the country. In Florida, at least 1,300 school staff members are also armed to serve as guardians on campuses in the state’s 45 school districts.

It’s so horrifyingly awful that students in the US can’t even go to school without feeling this sort of fear and worry. Kids should only have to worry about studying and enjoying their time in school.

As a student in the US, I honestly just wish they would just fix this. Officers are always trained and such but it still happens. Kids still die because the root of the problem is still being ignored. The US is the only country that needs these and it should not stay that way.

The fact that this is needed is depressing. Bullying has taken more lives than school shootings, yet rarely anything is ever done, some teachers even claim that the bully is "just expressing themselves". Humans have failed as a species since as far back as we can date. So much unneccesary violence and destruction.

after the school shooting at that elementary school my school stepped up their security and rules. We now sign in and out whenever we leave the classroom(Write down time and location) Only one person is allowed out at a time, doors are always locked, you check who knocks on the door, police now follow school busses, etc. I go to a small county school, only about 350-400 students. We never do these types of drills though, which i really think are necessary even for a small school like mine. We don't just need to know where to hide when there's a live shooter in our school, we need to know what to do, and have even a little bit of practiced experience if something like this were to take place. Not teachers just saying "Sit here, dont move, stay quiet" It's unfortunate I live in a country where I'm always on edge that something could happen that would cost me my life or someone else's everyday. Society today is just flat out messed up, and it disappoints me that we've become like this.

You know here in the Philippines. One of things you'll notice about Public/Private schools is that there's always a nearby police station or sometimes just right next to the school, so incase something happens within the school, the police response is always quick. Perhaps America needs to do the same.

These shootings happen literally every day. Last week a McDonalds employee was murdered because a customer thought their fries weren't hot enough. I often think that if a foreigner was given one of our daily papers they would not believe it. The conservative half of our country genuinely believes that we need to have more people with guns to have less shootings. After mass shootings they tell everyone to buy more guns. I feel like I'm in a dystopian novel sometimes...
