Just because the nation as a whole is "rich", doesnt mean the people are... Australia is one of the most expensive places to live in the world. Living expenses has and continues to increase, whilst wages have not increase at all in over 10 years.

Because it makes no difference if the wages for CEO's or engineers or doctors are the highest in the world if the working class are still struggling to get by. @Kate J I do kind of agree but people need to change jobs in this situation and retrain if necessary. Lots of well paid jobs go unfilled in Aus. Most people rather complain than find a solution.

How are we "rich" when the cost of living is insanely high and we have the most expensive houses in the world. Aussies are taking 30 plus years mortgages, paying for substandard quality cardboard houses that most will probably never stop paying off before they die. We might have high wages but literally everything is way more expensive than in any other western countries. Plus we don't produce anything anymore, manufacturing is gone, our economy is just raw primary ressources that we sell to other countries, a gigantic services industry. We look rich on the paper, but we're certainly not wealthy.

One major fact you forgot to mention - China. Australia has exported most of its nature resources to China which helped its economy.
