Why limit yourself to just Canadians. Most of the developed world looks on at the USA with dismay.
School shootings. Archaic thinking around abortion.Ingrained racism. Police brutality. Obsessive gun culture. Corrupt politicians in the pay of major corporations and lobbyists. Gerrymandering. Healthcare bankruptcy. Lower life expectancy. Crumbling infrastucture. Questionable educational standards.

Today I voted in our provincial election. My voting card was mailed to me a couple of weeks ago. This card had on it the location of my voting station with hours they are open. Instructions to show up with my voter card and an ID.

He pointed to the next person who checked my voter card and sent me to the correct desk. My ID and voter card were looked at and a ballot was given to me. I was pointed to the voting area, marked my ballot for who I wanted to be my MPP and popped it back into a folder. I gave this folder to another volunteer who inserted it into a scanner and I was done. In all it took, perhaps, seven minutes. It took so long because I had my dog with me and he got a bit of welcomed attention.
No line ups. No one with a rifle over their shoulder. No one being turned away for some obscure glitch like wrong ID. No hassle.
In. Out.
Compare to voter suppression, threats to voters, long line ups because of two voting stations for a million people.
And that can make a person feel slightly smug.

Welllll …. Canadians grow up listening to every American politician, every gun-toting NRA member, claim they live in the “Greatest Country in The World”. So, I'd say you've got to temper that sense of Canadian smugness at times, against that constant wash of America The Great we constantly hear.
Besides, it's a pretty damn good country we live in. Less fear, fewer murders, few mass-shootings, better overall health-care, less police violence, better educated society, cheaper tertiary education, better levels of equality, higher median standard of living. So, ya, we're proud of that, and sometimes dispute this Americanism is best with some comments that make the US / Canada comparison stark.

I live in Michigan so it is fairly easy to get to Canada. I have been to Toronto many times, enjoying theatre, comedy shows, hockey games, and restaurants. One of the best things I used to do was shop for horses. Canada has many high quality horses and the monetary exchange was favorable to us. We got some of our best horses from Canada. The people I met were friendly and very pleasant. I never met a Canadian who I thought was a jerk.

I don’t find them having a “sense of superiority”, but rather astonishment that the U.S. has let things get as bad as they are here.

The replies are priceless.
The favourite sport in Canada, after Hockey, of course, is taking the piss out of Americas. They elevate it to an art form.

I think we do, just as Americans exhibit a sense of superiority to everyone else. It’s a question of priorities: the USA has a larger economy and far more powerful military than any other country, and that’s what counts for many Americans, while Canada has a higher quality of life (healthcare, public safety, education, etc.) for most of its citizens, and that’s what counts for them.

I lived in Canada for a while and actually found the opposite. We made wonderful friends and established lifelong relationships and this same topic came up often. More often than not, I found an odd insecurity - a burning desire to prove to Americans that Canada was equal. But the irony is that no one knows how fucked up America is better than an American. I never understood who they were trying to prove this superiority to other than themselves.
