I’d be tempted to keep it like this, if there was a way to put a really durable clear coating on top to fill in the footprints and level it all off.

Top tip from a professional decorator: dispense a SMALLER amount of paint into a paint kettle (as they are called in the UK at least) and do NOT lug around the full 5 gallon container! Much less spillage when you go ar-se over t-it.

Nope, all doors are NOT the same size - some door sizes are supposed to be "standardized" but that doesn't mean older houses will all be standard. My house was built in 1961 and I have found out by trial and error (MUCH error!) that my doors (and windows!) are NOT all the same size!
