India swelters in severe, unusually early heat wave, worsened by climate change | DW News

India swelters in an extreme heat wave. As temperatures top 40 degrees Celsius in large parts pf the country, there's little relief in sight. Monsoon rains are not expected until June.

We heard the warnings. We ignored the warnings. These are the consequences.
I know, but thankfully, I've prepared for any possible food shortages. I hope all of you are preparing as well
I honestly have the same thoughts..
I'd say this is more to do with the amount of pollution Delhi produces trapping all the heat over global warming. When you let companies do whatever they want this is the result. Look at the sky even in the colder months it is just a cloud of pollution.

@Dario Fontana how have you prepared?
@Dario Fontana
@Swati Chatterjee I've been stacking up on food such as canned vegetables, rice, and beans. I've also been buying other stuff that I need like toothpaste, deodorant, etc to avoid paying the higher prices from inflation
@Swati Chatterjee
@Dario Fontana ??. You can also grow your own food. I think coming generations must know the skill of growing food.
@Dario Fontana
@Dario Fontana lol. I thought I had as the only person doing this. Now I'm finding it everywhere on YouTube comments
Last June the northwestern USA and southwestern Canada had a similar record breaking heatwave and only a month after most of the region saw their average last freeze, it was not a good corn, apple, cherry or wheat year because it was so early in the farm season. This is definitely climate change unfolding! 6 months later our area had record breaking overnight snowfalls and a year later we can hardly reach typical springtime temperatures! Our weather is becoming increasingly temperamental by the time the countries of the world all agree it will be too late
Unfortunately it is already to late…
Yeah 120 degrees feels real familiar in cali for sure
Same in Spain
we have 10 years to get to CO2 neutral and that is just to avoid the WORST of climate change. IF we start throwing everything behind nuclear we can JUST BARELY make that deadline.
@Lovin life and loving ???? it will never be too late. But indeed, we are in a bad situation already. Nevertheless, as I said, every ton less CO2 and CH4 counts and every fraction of a degree matters.
@Lovin life and loving 永远不会太迟。但事实上,我们的处境已经很糟糕了。然而,就像我说的,每减少一吨二氧化碳和甲烷都很重要,每(降低)零点一度都很重要。
Well, we have in Belgium a unusual long dry period this spring, it hasn't rain in 3 months. So the farmers couldn't plant the normal vegetables crops that need water, even the fruit trees are now in problem and there is a ban on pomping up groundwater or use water from rivers.
Even on the days when temperatures in Delhi touched 49 degrees, there were areas with very high green cover which recorded upto 4 degree lower temperatures. Trees might not be enough to reverse climate change, but green cover can bring down temperatures in the immediate vicinity.
How bad does it need to get before humans understand, regardless of race or class, that we are all in this boat together. Wellington New Zealand last summer in the southern hemisphere also experienced a sustained heatwave for the first time in living memory. We had heatwaves in Europe in 2019 that went on for over a week.
A week that's along time, if you head south in Europe you come to the sea keep on going and you come to a place called Africa keep on going and you'll end up in the biggest desert in the world, enjoy.
@basil tozer thanks for sharing your geography knowledge. My point is that parts of the world that aren't used to the heat are now getting the heat.

At the end of June of 2021 the little town of Lytton, British-Columbia, Canada reached a temperature of 46.6c , an incredible jump from our all time previous national record of 45c...the following day the temperature reached 47.9c and then the following day 49.6c....the next day the whole town burned to the ground...and yet, less than a year later , it is all but forgottten and all people do is complain about the price of gas....not too optimistic about the future of this civilisation.

Well, i need gasoline to travel and i don't have anough income to afford loan to buy electric car. So why shouldn't i complain when the price of gasoline is 2.50 euros per litre or $9.90 per gallon for any americans out there. We have very few busses meaning personal car is a necessity for ordinary day. It seems that the use of gasoline is now a capital sin, even if you need it for mandatory minimum everyday life. That blame is shoveled onto me, regular Joe, in almost every news.

@Alaric Balthi in 2007 I lived in Phoenix AZ, an extremely car-oriented city. I owned a car because public transit was so awful. Later that year I donated my car to charity (it was an oil leaking heap) and I moved to Honolulu where I didn’t need to drive because there was adequate public transit and the city is quite walkable (lived mainly in Waikiki where I could literally walk across the street for basic groceries or across another street to get to the beach). I made that move after working a job that paid me a little more than minimum wage. Five years later, mostly still broke, I moved to London (UK), with excellent public transit and where owning a car is an awful lot of hassle (couldn’t have afforded a car anyway). I haven’t bothered to get a UK driver’s license. During the pandemic I stopped using even public transit and bought an electric bike so I wouldn’t have to be in other people’s breathing space. But really I can manage without it because the city is walkable. I work online and don’t generally need to leave the house except if I want to get some outdoor exercise. I haven’t taken any flights since 2017, and have gradually reduced my consumption of all things. I vote Green. I have things yet to do to reduce my carbon footprint further and things I can’t do (like becoming vegan because of medical reasons), but it is possible to gradually reduce the strain you put on the planet by doing what you can when you can and being mindful about the things that might be easier to cut at a given time. There is no point in being defeatist about the whole thing. Start in whatever way you can.

Issue is, due to heat the water thats being evaporated and forming clouds from Indian ocean, are bringing that rain in Nilgiris area and southern regions of hills, rather than bringing those rain bearing clouds to central and northern regions, and due tot his the south of India getting rains continously, and central and northern regions are roasting for now.

Here in the USA we haven't lowered our carbon footprint at all even if some claim we have, we merely sent the carbon output (manufacturing) to other countries. Carbon footprint should be based on consumption.
