This will make you realize that no country is perfect. Every country has its own pros and cons.

That’s what I wanted to say !!!!
Yes. No country is perfect. Even in my country, Indonesia.
Foreigners think that the people here are very friendly. Well, that's correct, I guess haha. But, many foreigners don't know that most people in Indonesia are also incredibly lazy.
@Coretan Hartbeast same here in the Philippines man, also lack of discipline here and self responsibility (not all, but it's common)
Actually Japan is perfect.
They always tell us japan is perfect
Switzerland is probably the closest thing to a perfect country, having a high cost of living is literally the only big issue.
India is the best
wrong. my country is perfect in every way
As a young black person who has lived in Japan it felt like absolute hell living there . As a vacation it was amazing but it's not a place to live...
Can you elaborate on this?
I'm also curious
Why "hell" though? I'm curious to know on the aspects that made u feel like that... Also I'm curious to know if u personally experienced any racism there for foreigners

Probably because you still don’t speak there language
Honestly, as a black, fat, tall woman, I've quickly realized I'd never be able to live in Japan. I definitely thought about it, but the more I learned, the more I realized it wasn't for me. I realized I'd be judged a lot and face a lot of pressure I don't face in Canada. I also value my freedom a lot, so the thought of having to put up with Japan's work culture sounds like absolute hell. I'd still love to visit Japan one day, but nothing long-term.
I remember filling out a health survey in 1989. The form was in English, and the nurse spoke English well, but she was Japanese.
There were 100 yes/no questions. I put an X in the right box, but the directions said to put a check in the box.
Of course I should have read more carefully, but I was shocked that the nurse asked me each question patiently, erased 100 Xs and replaced them with check marks. I was amazed by both her patience, and the rigidity of the system.
I had a lot of great times in Japan, and learned a lot, but I am a very casual person and not like following strict guidelines.
This does not surprise me.
I had numerous experiences like that when I lived in Japan. :/
Why did she ask you each question again. And why does it matter that much if its a cross or a tick or a circle or a fucking triangle.
Honestly, I’ve been too afraid to visit Japan on account that I’m afraid that I’d break one of their rules. Not to mention the language barrier which I’ve researched that english is not a very common language there.
I visited Tokyo with my family in 2020. There were a couple restaurants that sent a specific staff who spoke Chinese to help us when they overheard us speaking in Chinese. As a tourist, I think the service in Japan is very good and makes you feel very welcome.

I lived in Tokyo for 2 years. What I didn’t like about Japan is that ppl are so used to following orders that they lose their critical thinking skill. Eg. The teacher said this, or my boss told me to do this etc. also they seem to glorify suffering, like if you can suffer more, you are more noble. It’s quite strange.
Having said that, I met many kind Japanese who are ready to help strangers.

@P L I am Japanese. I completely agree with your opinion.
I think a lot of the reason why Japanese people are often said to be kind and gentle is because they are very concerned about how they are perceived externally or by others.
If you go to japan and work in a western company it would be great because their working culture is different.
I am a Japanese student.
I am poor, but I am happy every day. I can play with my good friends every day, study at school, eat delicious food, and sleep in my bed at home. This is enough for me. I am happy from the bottom of my heart to be born in Japan.
I love your spirit
I want to go on holiday to Japan, but I don't want to live there
Same with me
I’ve never seen someone who doesn’t like anime but is interested with Japan
Earthquakes and tsunamis
I live in Japan for 15 years but I really don't like to live in JP...
Idk the exact reason..it just didn't match me
I guess it is pretty universal to feel, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence". It's human nature to want what we don't have, but others do. It's funny that some of the things that the Japanese folks interviewed didn't like are reasons many outsiders are attracted to Japan. I can understand not liking school uniforms and the desire to dress casually, but I also understand that, in school with casual dress, what you wear can affect how people view each other. Kids from poorer families become embarrassed because they can't afford expensive clothing that kids from better off families wear.
I think it would have been interesting to have heard some older Japanese folks answer the same question. I'm sure their answers would have been much different from the answers that the younger folks gave.
these are kids, they are not entitled to what they wanna wear at school. seriously. they have a whole long life ahead of them, they can wear however they want in the future after graduated.
Well uniform shows equality among people.
I agree with you, uniforms relieved a lot of stress on my behalf.
In the morning, I didn’t have to care about what to wear. The only thing that identified the social status of someone at my school was their bags or shoes.
I don’t think people understand the stress it can take on a person to get dressed for school each day if you are poor. Worrying about repeating clothes, the quality of your clothes, how people will judge your style. This is removed with a uniform. Everyone is kinda the same.
Uniforms also informed anyone I was a student. Adults tended to take better care of me on the streets, and rarely would adult guys make a pass at me….unless they are perverts.
