Recently, a stabbing incident in Korea made national headlines after a policewoman failed to intervene. While this is not the first time the Korean police have been criticized for passive policing, the current government’s goal to boost the number of female officers from about 10% as of 2017 to 15% by 2022 seemed to have only escalated the frustration. Many have turned to online petitions and community forums to voice their opinions of wanting to ban all female police, calling them useless and incompetent, while some counter-argued that this is not a gender issue and simply a matter of the lack of proper training. So, what do ordinary Korean citizens really think of this whole issue? We hit the streets to find out!

A police officer accused of fleeing a crime scene and leaving two victims alone with a knife-wielding attacker in Incheon last month has been dismissed, police said Wednesday. The punishment, decided at a disciplinary committee held a day earlier, is the second most severe that can be handed down to a public servant, after removal with pension stripped from the person. The fired officer was a 20-something woman with about six months on the job. She was dispatched to the scene on Nov. 15 along with a more experienced male officer, who was outside the building when the violence occurred.
Just give the women exact same training process as men. Kick out those who fail, and keep those who pass
But the men ran away too so...

But then the percent of women will be even less XD
They heard noise but the policeman with 16 experience with gun didn't go to check it (All that training failed) and asked a newbie policewoman (just 6 months experience) to go and check it out. And she was going up against armed men but she didn't have gun, teaser or pepper spray so she naturally ran down to get back up
Easy 2 step fix:
1. Give the job to the best fit
2. Allow the police to use +1 weapon. (If they pull out a knife you can pull out a taser.)
Lack of Training is the issue not because they are Policewoman. I mean if they have trained for this kind of situation that policewoman might already handle it right. And I hope the Higher ups will issue trainings to policewoman how to defend or subdue someone who is with a weapon. And they don't have to generalize policewoman as a whole because of the mistake by one person.
In Korea male and female officers are trained together. But females have it easier at entrance exams. Therefore their entrance exams should be made to match males
This sounds like she wasn't trained properly to deal with situations like this.
Bet they just hired her "for diversity" but forgot the "training" part just to "make a point" how "useless" female cops are...I bet this was intentional.
Yes but the Male Officer left her there. Police should never separate from each other till the threat is over. They didn't work as a team which is how most countries work their Police.Obviously females need equal training in all areas as the men but having the male leave the female officer officer in such a dangerous situation, even if it wasn't a female officer, the male shouldn't have left his partner behind.
@nicole lubelski stop putting the blame elsewhere. Plenty of police interactions involve just one police officer. If you cannot handle one person as a police officer, you shouldn’t be one.
People of all genders are really important in the police force because everyone sees things differently. Having different perspectives can help with varying emergency situations. But everyone should be trained and prepped to face potential violent circumstances. The training for women in the police force for such a conservative country should be reuated.
9:10 I think this guy got the right idea. Just because one female cop fled the scene doesn't mean every policewoman is going to do that. It just became such big news because it's a woman.
This isn't the first time situation like that happened, it also happened in the US as well. And the debate between just women or lack of training, I am convinced that the lack of training is what is actually causing these issues.
From what I have read & seen on this Korean issue, it seems that the testing & requirements of females in this job have different standards. In other countries the females Must have the same training ect as the males. From this specific issue it was the Male Officer who left 1'st. So both are at fault, the Male leaving first especially. As Police Officers, they both should have stayed on the scene, that is why they are grouped together. By not properly training & uating Officers either male or female only puts them & their partners at risk. It seems that some public opinion is that this is an isolated case that was extreme. Gender equality is always a good thing but not if a person is not fully equipped to totally fore fill their role. I really hope they change the testing, qualification of female officers, in that way if anything in the future was ever to happen, it will be based purely on the individual not on their gender status.
The training & education has to be changed. It’s a given that men & women have different body structures, so the physical training should be adjusted so that all candidates can handle difficult situations. As the older gentleman stated there are plenty of countries that have female officers, the difference is the level of training.
Agree with what the man with the red hat was saying. If a person cannot handle situations like this, he or she is simply not be qualified as a police officer. Some women can definitely take on a man
I am Korean and that grandma who wear pink cap don't know what happened. She said the policeman made the policewoman go first but it's not true. The policeman was talking with the husband in 1st floor of the apartment and the policewoman was talking with the wife&daughter in front of their home(3rd floor of the apartment). And the guy who live in 4th floor suddenly went down to 3rd floor and stabbed the wife with knife. And the policewoman just ran away to outside of apartment with scream. Then the daughter grabbed the guy's hand for saving her mother.
