It happened with me and I regret that it happened.

I did this once. It was an exercise at a drama camp I did. We were randomly paired up and had to stare into each other’s eyes for 10+ mintutes, just reciting our lines.

If you actually practice this, what you are likely to find is a few or all of the below.
1.The anxiety that arrises when you are being seen directly by another person, without distraction.
2.The need to communicate, fidgit, smile, giggle, or soothe that anxiety. It feels weird at first.
3.If you work hard to be still and non-expressive, you will feel vulnerable, and begin to see the other person’s vulnerability.
4.You realize the other person’s innocence and see them more deeply than you’ve ever seen them. It becomes a point of real connection between you.
5.You realize how often you are not seen for who you are, and how you may be operating at a deficit 99% of the time.
6.Hallucinations - after a few minutes, what you see on the other person’s face begins to distort, black out, and change contrast. At some point you may only see a floating pair of eyeballs in front of you.

Seriously though, they must like each other. You can make a connection with them mentally this way, some people can “read you” as in see deep with in your heart and soul. It may even bond you because you need to feel comfortable with this person in order to do this.
Although, I learnt this with a stranger during a parapsychology class. I saw three old trees and felt a deep loneliness. Apparently this woman spent every lunchtime reading under these trees as I described them to her. So you never know what you “pick up” from the other person.

We were tasked to do this at university and someone I was developing a friendship with well I was giggly the whole way through and I found it incredibly hard to hold her gaze.
I found her intimidating. After that day I found myself not trusting her. And eventually after a few unfortunate events I left the course to move to another one.
She saw a vulnerability in me and she started taking advantage of it.
