I am currently in the process of leaving my position as an amazon delivery driver. This is the straw that’s broken the camels back. We already have a separate monitoring system app that is required to drive. It monitors speed, seatbelt, g forces, etc...I was ok with it even though it’s scores are fairly ambiguous. Amazon claims this is in the name of safety but is clearly a new form of control and a new way to screw the third party company’s out of money. I think most drivers technically are contractors. My station at least only has third party driver company’s. The way I see it is this allows Amazon to pass every last buck off to us. This is where these cameras are going to screw us drivers. Amazon knows their app is fucked and they know we have to use the phone while driving to be successful so the AI camera is going to recognize the phone manipulation while driving and write infractions on the drivers. We won’t get fired over them but they’ll cost the third party company’s money.

I think most people here are missing an aspect of the issue. The AI is not really there to "enforce" drivers to be better (although that is one aspect). Many (most?) companies use camera's, apps, and other technology to monitor performance. The AI is there to LEARN how to do the humans job.

I was a delivery driver for like 6 weeks, it was far too stressful and it was pretty physically demanding as well. On top of the fact if I wanted a chance to finish a route on time I couldn’t take a lunch or a bathroom break. I quit just before the cameras were installed, but I did manage to sign electronically, but it didn’t go into effect until I returned from my week off. It’s a simple job but very demanding, I’m returning back to Home Depot, who doesn’t have a unx either, but takes a much better initiative in supplying their employees with decent benefits and a suitable enough working environment. I complained a fuck ton about delivering and how much more invasive the changes Amazon were making to make our jobs even harder to complete. I wouldn’t recommend working for Amazon, burn out accumulates pretty fast there.
