Chi Duong, Family is often complicated.
I'm introverted and sextively social. Unless it's part of my job/networking sections, I never have meal, or coffee, or much interactions with more than 3 people at once, and at least half these people need to be from my very tiny inner circle. I prefer being alone than having to share my time with people outside of said circle. The only ways I've ever managed to add more people to that circle was either a mutual introduction and prolonged exposure afterwards, or we met online and spent a whole lot of time chatting before ever meeting face to face.

我性格内向，习惯选择性社交。除非是我工作关系，否则我不会参与三人以上的饭局、喝咖啡，或者同时和三个以上的人交流，即使工作关系也至少有一半来自我非常小的核心圈子才行。不然我宁愿一个人呆着，也不愿和圈子外的人分享时间。我想要把更多的人加到这个圈子里，唯一的办法就是互相介绍，然后在之后延长曝光时间，或者我们在网上认识，但在见面之前花了很多时间去聊天。

I live away from my parents and extended family, and in truth have very little desire to dine with them - my reasons are complicated and that's what one visits a shrink for. When I do have to have meal with the fam, I try to get my favourite cousin to visit and just stick to her through out the entire meal(s). My mother, an extrovert, is often puzzled as to why I seem to be able to socialise just fine if I must, but often opt to stay in and not bathe in the glory of interacting with other humans. Sorry mama, I just wasn't born that way...

I Prefer to eat alone !
You may find that strange but I enjoy my food more . I don't have to worry about manners or my noisy eating , I can eat as much or little as I want, or simply leave it without offending anyone. I hate it when you go to social house gatherings and the host almost demands you eat from their buffet which was the result of days of hard work and preparation. I don't mean to be rude and have to show at least a token gesture of “ joining in “. I'm not being awkward or selfish but people look at you as though you are , eventually I end up with a reputation . It's not that the food is unappealing , I'd just rather box it up and take it home for later.

I may add I am an only child now in my 50’s and can only attribute my eating habits to childhood , my father worked permanent night shift and often it would be my mother and I at the dinner table. My mother and I had a strong but volatile relationship when I was young for various reasons.

Incidentally I feel very comfortable when eating in public ie. at a restaurant . I don't have the same hang up in this environment , it's only with loved ones
I may add that my daughter has suffered from anorexia and other eating (orders ) and although I don't blame myself for this I do wonder if there's a connection.

I am an indian origin guy. Indian people believe in families. They prefer to live as an extended family so that all members can meet atleast 1 time together. The time is mostly at evening when all working person return from their work and after some time they spend together at dining area. They used to discuss all social, political, personal stuff with each other. Normally younger ones may seek some advise from their elder sibllings, parents or grand parents. Due to work, to fulfill career obxtives people started living separately in bigger cities or metros. Even indians have concept to share. Most of them share apartments, get hostels or even share rooms, just to live with some one's company. Indians never want to live alone. I don't have much idea about west or other countries but I am sure about South East Asia region. They live together & off course dine tougher as well. I always prefer to take my food with my family.
