However, India would now be displaced by California as the world's 5th largest economy and hot on the heels of Germany, despite it having over twice California's population!

I think these kinds of questions are not really considering that if California is a separate country, it loses the integration it has in the rest of the US market. Therefore, the size of its economy can never be the same.

US is our ally and I'll be honest,I like trump. Although I don't like him as a person but he's still done decent stuff. But sanctioning Canadian aluminum is nothing but an act that'd raise costs for American manufacturing companies which is definitely bad for both the economies. Furthermore calling Canadaa national security threat and rude calls to Australia doesn't help in maintaining the image of US as a great ally. If California secession happens after a devastating civil war - well . . .
