I live in Vietnam. I saw KFC go from little business to packed when they added rice. Before that customers would walk in, ask có com khong? Do you have rice? No? Bye. Then they added it. Packed. And not everyone is eating rice. They’re doing great.
Pizza Hut is third rate in the USA; here it’s superb and includes Asian varieties like seafood pizza, with baby octopus. But its spaghetti that’s really caught on. Noodles are noodles and not a one of my students doesn’t like spaghetti.
Lotteria sells burgers, a Korean franchise with more Asian flavor. Burger King here in Can Tho is doing pretty well, but it’s strictly for the middle class.
